When Kelly joined the Fury, we didn’t think he’d last long. We’d seen a lot of other “coaches” show up, only to last for maybe a maximum of 2 games before disappearing into oblivion. Perhaps they were embarrassed, or perhaps we were just beyond repair.

But Kelly stuck it out and worked tirelessly with us. He wasn’t afraid to kick our asses when we needed it, but he was the first person to dole out the compliments when we actually did something right. And as the team continued to grow and get better at hockey, we also grew as a family. People were married, babies were had, and we even bared it all for a tastefully nude calendar. And Kelly was part of that family.

We all have our special memories of Kelly. One that sticks out in a lot of our minds is when we went to Vegas for a tournament and Kelly came in late and was pounding on the door of our hotel room wondering why we wouldn’t answer. Probably because he was at the Tropicana and we were at the Imperial Palace.

The team was all together when we heard the news, and we made the pilgrimage across half of Alberta and all of Saskatchewan to stand as part of the honour guard at his funeral. It was during this trip that the idea of the tournament took flight. And we got the name of the tournament courtesy of Kelly’s brother Bob who joked about the precarious situation a single swinging guy like Kelly could get into around chicks like us. But he was always the gentleman, and forever a friend and brother to everyone on the team. Kelly, we miss you greatly. Enjoy this commemoration.

Beer gardens will be open in the arena all weekend while games are going on - proudly serving Big Rock products. New this year: bottled Caesars and assorted coolers!

The Fox in the Henhouse tournament is looking for volunteers for the following activities:

1) Timekeeping: running of the score clock and turning in of the gamesheets
to the tournament organizers after the game. Complimentary coffee and Baileys.

2) Bar duty: Small talk while serving up some Big Rock products
and selling raffle tickets. Proceeds from the bar and raffle will go towards
Family and Friends Fund in Honour of Kelly Reitenbach.

The schedule for the weekend is posted below. Teams will be assigned approximately 2 weeks prior to the tournament. Special requests may be entertained to accommodate travel schedules; however, since we have two sheets of ice this year, there is greater parity from one schedule to another.

You can register for the tournament by filling out our registration form (to be added) and emailing it to registration@furyhockey.ca

A deposit of $400 is required to secure your spot and spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

Team rosters are required to be sent to the tournament registrar one week prior to the tournament.

Individuals, if desired, can send their info to the registrars and we'll do our best to find a place on a team for you.
